Glen Mayhew was appointed as an Assistant Chief Constable in January 2022.
His current role is the Chief Officer lead for local policing which includes neighbourhood, patrol and local investigation teams across the four command areas: Cornwall & Isles of Scilly; Plymouth; South Devon and Torbay; and North and West Devon. The portfolio includes citizens in policing programme (special constabulary and police volunteers), crime prevention, youth justice and alcohol licensing.
ACC Mayhew is the chair of the Chief Officer Group for the Local Resilience Forum (LRF). This is the partnership collaboration who have an obligation to prepare and plan for major incidents and co-ordinate the multi-agency response to all critical and major incidents. In this role ACC Mayhew led the LRF and Police response to Covid-19, as well as incidents including large scale flooding and extreme weather events.
In his previous chief officer role ACC Mayhew was responsible for specialist uniform operations including firearms, roads policing, specialist search and public order for the Devon & Cornwall Police and for the South West region. In this period he was appointed as the Gold (strategic) commander for the largest and most complex policing and security operation in the South West when the G7 World leaders summit was hosted in Cornwall in June 2021.
ACC Mayhew is a specialist Strategic Firearms commander, Public Order and Public Safety Gold commander, Major and Critical Incident commander and Hostage & Crisis negotiator.
As part of his national portfolio, ACC Mayhew leads on UK Search & Rescue where he is vice chair of UK Strategic Search & Rescue board. He is also the lead for Maritime and Dive policing on behalf of National Police Chiefs Council.
Outside of work, ACC Mayhew makes full use being near the coastline with an interest in water sports and activities. He is a qualified Surf Lifeguard and teaches lifesaving and water safety. In 2018 he was elected as a trustee on the national board for Surf Life Saving GB.
