Local Policing Team
Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams consist of Neighbourhood Team Leaders (police sergeants), Neighbourhood Beat Managers (police officers) and police community support officers (PCSOs) who are accountable to their local community. A key element of the role is to undertake community engagement to understand community concerns and update them on police activity in order to build confidence.
They will work in partnership with teams both within the police (for example alcohol licensing and youth intervention) and externally (local authorities, Environmental Health and registered social landlords) to problem solve community issues. The underlying principle of our neighbourhood policing model is to intervene at the earliest possible opportunity to prevent an escalation of crime and harm.

- Visible Patrols - We continue to conduct as many visible patrols as possible throughout South East Cornwall. These are often supported by our local surgeries held with our PCSO's. Please endeavour to attend to discuss your community concerns.
- Beat Patrol Plans – Reports by the public will dictate where we are patrolling. We continue to respond to reports of ASB and increase our visibility in these areas, with many positive outcomes.
- Partnership Working – We continue to work closely with our partners to deal robustly with reports of persistent ASB. We have been consistently using Local Disruption and Support Meetings to target specific locations. This has seen many successes and even a complete end to ASB in certain areas.

- Hotspot visits – Hotspot policing is a crime prevention strategy that concentrates police resources and activities on small, high-crime areas (hotspots) like specific streets, parks, or intersections, based on data showing crime clusters. By increasing visible patrols, problem-solving, and community engagement in these concentrated spots, police aim to deter potential offenders, reduce crime, and create a greater sense of public safety. South East Cornwall has designated Hotspots, which are concentrated around retail areas.
- Engagement – We have engaged directly with business owners, promoting how to contact your local Police Neighbourhood Team and promote engagement through community messaging. This has seen some really positive results in respect of apprehending and charging prolific shoplifters. Prevention is a priority, however, continuous engagement is required from retail premises to ensure the evidence is present to allow for robust action and positive outcomes.
- UKPAC - UKPAC is a not-for-profit co-operative made up of like-minded businesses, police, crime prevention agencies and legal professionals — all working together to improve trading conditions and community safety. Working with our Crime Prevention Team, we have sourced funding for a free trial of UKPAC to allow businesses to trial this platform and have been offering this to businesses throughout the sector. Please enquire with your local officers and PCSO's regarding this initiative.
- Officers from South East Cornwall Neighbourhood team continue to pursue those involved in retail crime. This has produced some really positive results. We hope this will provide reassurance that we remain proactive in our approach and endeavouring to protect the local community and retail premises from further offending from these individuals. Rest assured proactive work continues to bring to justice those individuals who are suspected of committing retail crime. Once again, engagement with retail premises is key. We have noted on a few occasions that retail premises won't engage with police, especially if the value of goods is low. This shouldn't be the case, as individuals will go on to commit further crime elsewhere if not robustly dealt with.

- Licensing Checks – Joint operations with licensing team will continue, where we will be conducting visits at pubs completing licensing checks with opportunity for drug wipes within locations if concerned with drug use.
- Thankfully, we continue to have low reported incidents of drug possession/dealing across the area. However, we are aware of a small percentage of individuals who continue to involve themselves in drug dealing. Working with our partners, we continue to develop our intelligence and robust action will be taken against those involved.
