Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams consist of Neighbourhood Team Leaders (police sergeants), Neighbourhood Beat Managers (police officers) and police community support officers (PCSOs) who are accountable to their local community. A key element of the role is to undertake community engagement to understand community concerns and update them on police activity in order to build confidence.
They will work in partnership with teams both within the police (for example alcohol licensing and youth intervention) and externally (local authorities, Environmental Health and registered social landlords) to problem solve community issues. The underlying principle of our neighbourhood policing model is to intervene at the earliest possible opportunity to prevent an escalation of crime and harm.
Tackling priority and prolific offenders in Mid Devon
Issued 07 October 2026
We have seen a number of individuals in Crediton (and across Mid Devon) convicted of business crimes and have seen the Courts issue Criminal behaviour orders and civil injunctions. We will continue to work with partners to ensure those that continue to commit the most harm and criminality in our community are subjected to enforcement and diversionary action.

Work with rural communities to establish what issues are affecting them and to better inform communities on changes to legislation and to work with local farmers to try and prevent offences occurring.
Issued 07 October 2026
We have drafted in specialist officers and worked with national agencies and organisations, including the national wildlife crime unit and rural crime teams. This has included the recent livestock attacks in the community and we have increased the profile of the legislation changes in regards to livestock attacks. We will also be exploring opportunities to better inform rural business owners and farmers to help prevent rural thefts.

Support the community safety partnership in combating ASB in Crediton Town and Policing the PSPO zone
Issued 07 October 2026
We have supported MDDC with the introduction of the PSPO and highlighted ASB within the CSP forum for consideration of what partners can bring to the table to help with the longer term issues within the area. There have been focused patrols in the PSPO zone and the use of wider police resources to take enforcement action against those that continue to undertake nuisance behaviours in the town. We have also been working with the town council to ensure that residents views are heard and acted upon.
