Shoplifting

Shoplifting remains a Government priority and, as such, is a priority for Honiton NPT. Shoplifting can be undertaken by people of all ages and can affect shop staff mentally, as well as the store through monetary loss.

Over the past month, one male has been arrested for north of a dozen shoplifting offences in Honiton, along with others facing proceedings for their involvement in shopliftings. We are awaiting the reporting of another dozen shoplifting crimes and will take appropriate action as soon as these reports are received.

A meeting between Stores in the town is being arranged for September, with a date being agreed upon shortly.

ASB - anti social behaviour to include anti social driving
Whilst anti-social behaviour will still be targeted within the town, the main Anti-Social focus for the next period will be on ASB Driving. This will include vehicles being driven without insurance and/or a valid driving licence, vehicle theft, unroadworthy vehicles, and drink and drug driving. Antisocial driving such as speeding, revving, loud music and large car meets also meets this criteria. This will include conducting speed checks in identified hotspot areas, supporting and expanding Community Speed Watch Activity, address vehicle related ASB through engagement and enforcement, and promoting road safety awareness.

There has been a rise in ASB from youths in the area, including toward shop staff and other members of the public. 6 Under 16s were searched following a report of ASB, with others fleeing known ASB areas as officers proactively patrolled them.

One E-Bike has been seized and we area aware of others in the area that are being in an anti social manner and are targeting those areas in order to overcome the issues.

Hotspot patrols within the town at key times and have contributed to a reduction in such crimes
