Our quartile data shows the representation at both rank and grade split in to 4 sections. Here you can see that in each quartile we have underrepresentation of those from Black and ethnically diverse backgrounds when we compare to the general population of the counties of Devon and Cornwall. The 2021 Census shows 3.9% of our population identify as Black, Asian or Ethnically Diverse and 3.7% as white non British.
During the recent period of increased recruitment we have welcomed higher numbers of individuals from Black and ethnically diverse heritage into Devon and Cornwall Police. Our responsibility is to ensure we retain this talent and support future development.
In order to close this representation gap at rank and grade we are taking a proactive approach and delivering a number of programmes to encourage and support those from underrepresented groups to progress their careers.
